MUSE ARTS Toronto – International Art Residencies

In 2022, the Community Arts Residence and Cultural Exchange took place in Colombia’s coffee zone. Under the theme “embracing peace,” residents were invited to explore new facilitation techniques, exchange knowledge with local artists, community members, and arts organizations, and create new connections to explore both individual and collective creation. In collaboration with schools and neighbourhoods, residents were involved in the creation of two outdoor murals that celebrate the richness of Quimbayan culture, promote an appreciation of the natural surroundings, and added beauty and colour to spaces cherished by the community.
As a vibrant platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and artistic talents, the residency sparked future collaborations and nurtured the development of intercultural artistic communities. Committed to social impact, the program promoted empowerment and solidarity through creative expression. It emphasized the importance of intergenerational and intercultural dialogue, encouraging participants to engage in active listening, thoughtful conversation, and innovative participation throughout the residency experience.
The “Community Arts and Cultural Exchange in Colombia” residency, themed New Beginnings, brought together artists from Canada, Colombia, Zimbabwe, and Cuba to explore the transformative power of community-driven artistic creation in a post-pandemic world. This unique residency focused on collaborative projects with youth and children while fostering the exchange of experiences in community engagement across diverse cultural contexts.
